We only use plywood with exterior grade glue in our shelves and furniture. So many popular children's furniture is made with MDF, which contains urea-formaldehyde resin and can release gasses into the air for a very long time, which can cause respiratory problems. Plywood will offer you a very stable product, one that is not damage easily by water, and will actually hold together with screws. The one draw back of plywood is that it cost's more, but quality usually does, but it does weight quite a bit less and is easier to move around..

Shelf dimensions are approx. 24" wide x 4" deep and 6 1/2" tall.
Shelf is finished with quality latex paint, an seal coated with 4 coats of urethane to protect it.
